Jane Woodward is Managing Partner at WovenEarth Ventures and a member of the Investment Committee. She has spent her 40-year career building portfolios of early-stage risk and successfully accelerating capital into overlooked, underestimated investment opportunities.
Jane started her career as an exploration geologist with ARCO Exploration Company and later as a petroleum engineering consultant to Stanford University's endowment. In 1987, she co-founded MAP Energy, which invested $2.5B across four innovation waves in energy (natural gas, wind, solar, storage) with an exit to GIP in 2020. In 2021, Jane market-tested her conviction in early-stage cleantech with a personal capital commitment of $25M, leading to the formation of WovenEarth Ventures in 2022.
Jane is concurrently an Adjunct Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, where she has spent over three decades teaching energy and cleantech innovation classes. She is on the teaching teams for Understand Energy and Stanford Climate Ventures and serves on Stanford's Precourt Institute for Energy Advisory Council.
Jane serves as a trusted advisor to numerous cleantech founders and previously served on the board of the enhanced geothermal company Fervo Energy from 2021 to 2026. Additionally, Jane founded The Foster Museum with a mission to inspire connection to art, nature, and the protection of place.
Jane holds an MBA and an MS in Engineering and Petroleum Geology, both from Stanford University, and a BS in Geology from UC Santa Barbara.
